Like it, Love it, or Leave it? Social Media
I wrote about Twitter yesterday. I am loving facebook right now. Myspace is pretty much dead to me. I enjoy the heck out of blogging.
Social Media (as defined by social media giant Wikipedia) is information content created by people using highly accessible and scalable publishing technologies that is intended to facilitate communications, influence and interaction with peers and with public audiences, typically via the Internet and mobile communications networks.
It’s everywhere and more and more people are obviously joining in. Some people do it to make business connections, some do it to meet interesting people, some do it to learn new things. There’s no wrong way to eat a Reese’s.
My question for you: do you like it, love it, or would you leave it in a heartbeat?
I included all social media because chances are most people are using some sort of platform that falls in the category, even if you don’t use a specific one.
For me—da da da da da—I’m lovin’ it. I’ve been able to meet new people, strengthen old relationships, encourage and be encouraged, and the list goes on. Besides that, it’s a lot of fun for being so useful.
Downside is that it can take up quite a bit of time if I’m not vigilant, but that’s my problem not Facebook’s.
Question’s to you now—like it, love it, or leave it? Also, do you have a favorite social medium or service? If you could only pick one to use for the rest of your life which one would it be?

Too Thankful?
Being thankful is such a huge part of worship. When the woman came to anoint Jesus with the perfume in Luke 7, He said that those who are forgiven much will love much. I’m convinced that if we can all get over ourselves and our self-righteousness we will see how much we’ve been forgiven and how much we should express our love.
Psalm 50:22 and 23 says, “Consider this, you who forget God,
or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue:
He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me,
and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God." (emphasis mine)
A couple things stand out to me with these verses (besides the obvious violence of tearing someone to pieces).
- Lack of thankfulness is really a forgetting of God.
- Training ourselves to walk in a continuous state of thanksgiving is hard, but if we believe His word, then we are preparing the way for Him to show us His salvation, which I want to see!
Now, I could take this the direction of thanking Him in the good and the bad, which I have talked about before. Instead, I just want to remind you to give thanks in the little, seemingly insignificant things.
Let me ask you the question, are you recognizing God’s hand and faithfulness everywhere? Jesus said nothing escapes His notice, and He is caring for us with the greatest of compassion and love.
WARNING: I’m about to overshare so if you don’t want to hear it, skip this paragraph! The other day I had a crazy representation of how deeply God has worked this in my life. I was in the bathroom doing my business (you know you do it too—there’s even a kid’s book about it). I got up to go wash my hands, and I began to thank God I wasn’t constipated. This is the honest-to-God truth!
It was at this point that I started thinking, “Can you be too thankful? Is it silly to thank God for something like that?”
After thinking about my kids’ and other kids’ prayers, I decided it’s not that crazy. Jesus told us we enter the Kingdom like little children and children are free, they express themselves, they wonder aloud, and are thankful for the “silliest” things.
I had someone once ask me (although it was more of declaration), “don’t you think God has better things to do than to mess with that?” It was regarding something this person felt was inconsequential, but God desires relationship. We get the privilege to rightfully recognize His goodness and faithfulness in our lives, and who am I to say God cares or doesn’t cares about little things?
No, I believe God sees it all so clearly. If he can look in the midst of a wicked earth and see Noah and his family and decide they're worth saving, then He can be aware and in control of every little thing.
That’s why I thank God for the big things like my family, my church, and getting to fulfill my destiny; but I also thank Him when I get a good parking spot, find a sale on the cereal I like, or get to do something fun with my kids.
Thankfulness is foundational to worship, and I hope you’ll join me in giving thanks for all things. It’s a freer and more productive way to live!
All that said, what are thanking God for today? Is this real in your life or do you think I'm crazy!?
